Summer Concert 2018

unnamedIt has only been a year since our last Summer Concert but I’m sure that those of you that attended will not forget that eventful afternoon.

As we were about to begin the concert, the rain that had been threatening to fall, suddenly eventuated. Gary Prendergast, our unflappable co host fired up his tractor and tray and, as if by magic, our audience loaded chairs, music instruments and sound system. Within 15 minutes, we were cosily installed in his enormous shed.

The Session Trio, now far more famous than then, played a concert rich in sound and emotion. Kenny’s guitar transported many of the baby boomers back to their teenage years.

Liz Frencham and Robbie Melville, played a skilful set that thrilled the audience with their brave improvisations.

In between the sets, the rain also took a break and the audience enjoyed Hanging Rock wines and fingerfood on the expansive deck. Some took the opportunity to check out the golf course putting green and the Campaspe River views. A magic day.

This year, the venue will be the same, the weather will be fine and the music will be hot jazz and blues provided by the Macedon Ranges Music Collective with featured soloists.

The Trentham Primary School Band
The Trentham Primary School Band under the direction of Andrew Zollia will welcome guests.  They have a marvellous sound and are the MITCH Young Musicians for the concert.

Liz Frencham with Robbie Melville

Liz is a rare bird. A warm, exuberant performer associated with multiple successful collaborations (FrenchamSmith, Jigzag & Dev’lish Mary) and a captivating soloist.

Somehow, (without genetic trickery!) she also maintains a career as a respected accompanist, producer and arranger both onstage and in the recording studio; sought out by a diverse gang of artists both national and international including While &  Matthews(UK), Gregory Page(US) , Wouter Kellerman(Africa), Kristina Olsen(USA), Mic Conway, Fred Smith and more.

Always a luminous and generous presence, Liz Frencham possesses that unique ability to hold an audience fondly in the palm of her hand.

Liz’s soulful singing and double bass playing will be beautifully complimented by the soft and sneaky meanderings and rhythms of Robbie Melville’s silky guitar playing.

The Session Trio

The Session Trio is Mitchell Lee (guitar and vocals), Kenny Cooke (lead guitar) and Jet Waldron (bass and keyboards).

Mitchell is a past MITCH Young Musician of the Year and MITCH members will notice an amazing maturity that has come into his performance. Kenny was the recipient of the Senior Music Award at Kyneton Secondary College in 2015 and was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts. Over the last year Mitchell has transformed his soloing into something of power and majesty. Jet brings a solid bass guitar and keyboard
to this amazingly sophisticated sound.

The Session Trio play a wonderful mix of today (John Mayer) and yesterday (60’s British Invasion). Think sophisticated modern pop meets 60’s British guitarists: Beck, Clapton and Hendrix. Over the last few months, they have developed a strong and passionate following in the Macedon Ranges.
