Spring Concert – 20th October 2013

We look forward to welcoming you to Music in the Central Highlands Spring Concert on Sunday 20 October at the historic Skelsmergh Hall estate, 688 Cobb & Co Road, Carlsruhe. Three different music styles will be presented in the former Degraves Mill, an 1857 bluestone flour mill. Skelsmergh Hall is between Woodend & Kyneton, 4 kilometres South of Kyneton. The concert will feature international singer/songwriter/guitarist Maria Forde who will bring her unique Irish Australian catalogue of original and traditional songs to the program.

‘Maria Forde is a fine singer and a gifted songwriter. Like all good songwriters her lyrics often reflect an understanding of and compassion for the human condition, with all its triumphs and disasters, all its bright peaks and dark corners…at her live performances she presents her songs with sincerity, passion and more than a dash of humour, and these very human attributes, along with her fine singing voice, are why she invariably establishes such a seemingly effortless rapport with her audiences….’ Eric Bogle

Our featured young Artist will be Mitchell Lee, a 14 year old guitarist and singer, who specializes in popular modern Australian songs. He is a student of Adam Johnston from Woodend and attends the Kyneton Secondary College. Mitchell has been recording at Adam’s studio and 2013 has been his biggest song writing year so far. Mitchell plays music as a way of expressing his emotions, as well as a way of relaxing. Our third performers will be Henry Vyhnal who will introduce a new combination of musicians playing a selection of Argentinian tangos. Henry (violin) will be joined by Sam Thorpe (double bass), Joe Tirasoli (accordion) and Robbie Melville (guitar).

The concert will commence at 2.30pm sharp and a 2.00pm arrival is recommended. There will be a 20 minute interval with light refreshments served.
